you have 1-5 ml of 0.140 M HCl solution and you want to dilute it to exactly 0.100 M. How much water should you add?

Solutions

Expert Solution

   before dilution                                     after dilution

M1 = 0.14M                                            M2 = 0.1M

V1 = 15ml                                             V2   =

                M1V1    =   M2V2

                V2       = M1V1/M2

                          = 0.14*15/0.1   = 21ml

the volume of water added = V2-V1

                                            = 21-15   = 6ml >>>>answer

1-5 ml is taken as 15ml
