Write 3-5 sentences response to this post

Coercing people into donating their eggs for surrogacy definitely mirrors the discussion of kidney sales. I know adoption can be expensive, just like surrogacy. The only dramatic difference I can see between adoption and surrogacy, is that in surrogacy you are getting a child that is actually yours, biologically. An adopted child is not biologically from you, but a desired child nonetheless. Do you think the adoption process is treating children as a commodity ?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Yes, I think people choose surrogacy to get a child that is biologically theirs but when it comes to adoption people are allowed to pick and choose. Parents register with the government’s adoption portal, Carings, and are referred up to three children, from which they could pick one. This clearly depicts the fact that adoption process is treating children as a commodity. However, with effect from May 1, 2017 parents will be reffered only one child to discourage the idea of commodification. When a child is born biologically, the parents don’t get to choose what will be born to them. They love their child irrespective of how the child looks or is. In fact, they go to any lengths to ensure the child is safe and healthy. Adoption is no different. It is a mindset not an activity. Discouraging the parents from picking and choosing ensures that the child gets the same unconditional love as a biological parent would give.
