why is serial monogamy the dominant marriage pattern in the United States? Are there any indications that this pattern might be changing?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Almost all the societies practised monogamy with single partners and some allowed remarriage while others allowed people to bear children without getting married. However, the problem with this style was that people kept changing their partners very easily without the intervention of law because marriage was not involved in most of the cases. However, as the society progresses, more new forms of relationships have emerged with the help of increased individual rights and partnership without any commitment. Open marriage is one of the most important form of marriages that emerges today, in which although individuals get married, they permit each other to have sexual relationship with other men or women. Secondly, the emergence of bisexuality is also on the rise in which while people are married to the opposite sex, they are also able to have sexual relationship with their own sex such as, male to male and female to female. This trend would keep emerging as people keep experimenting different relationship models indirectly.
