Nation states are formed by virtue of meeting these minimal criteria of statehood :A defined territory;A permanent population that feels belonged to the nation;An effective government; Sovereign capacity to enter into relations with other states;
Recognition of other nation states is also a traditionally established virtue that ensures its political existence as a nation state.The United states of America has met most of these conditions ever since its independence in 1776 .
The United States is comprised mostly English speaking citizens. 80% of Americans solely spoke English, and up to 95% of citizens stated they speak English well/very well, despite it not being their primary language. A nation is a group of people who feel bound by a common language, culture, religion, history, or ethnicity.
The nation-state is one where the great majority are conscious of a common identity and share the same culture and that is why Minnesota is not a nation state.
To become a nation state,Minnesota needs to become an area where the cultural boundaries match up with the political boundaries. The idea of nation-state is that the state incorporates people of a single ethnic stock and cultural traditions.
