The service blueprint is a technique originally used for servicedesign and innovaion, but has also found application in diagnosing problem with operational efficency. A simple way to think about blueprint is as a process chart which consists of inputs, process and outputs. A service blueprint is always constructed from the customer's prespective. A Starbucks blueprint should identify:

  • Customer Action: the step that customer takes as part of the service delivery process. In this case the Entry of the customer and the process of ordering
  • Front-stage (visible contact employee) Action: steps taken by contact employee as a part of the face to face service encounter. In this case the process of taking order.
  • Backstage  (invisible contact employee) Action: (The 'line of visibility' separates the front-stage and back-stage action). Non-visible teps taken by contact employee behind the line of visibility. In this case the process of preparing the orders of the cutomers
  • Order fulfilling line:  step taken by the contact employee to give the final product to the customer in minimum expected wait time and billing
