The tibia and fibula are the long bones of lower leg, the tibia is larger bone on the inside and fibia is smaller bone on the outside. The tibia is the larger, weight-bearing bone located on the medial side of the leg, and the fibula is the thin bone of the lateral side of the leg.
The fibula does not bear weight, its main function is muscle attachments and is largely surrounded by muscles. It has three main articulations. Proximal tibiofibular joint articulates with lateral condyle of the tibia, Distal tibiofibular joint articulates with fibular notch of the tibia and Ankle joint articulates with talus bone of the foot.
The tibia, is the main weight-bearing bone of the leg and the second longest bone of the body, proximaly tibia articulates with femur to form the tibial-femoral joint of the knee, distaly the tibia articulates with talus to form the talocrural joint of the ankle
