Why public housing was established:

Public housing is a trending concept, started by the US government with the main aim to provide the poor people, low income families, elderly people and disabled persons with the facility of housing. It is an initiative stated whereby the house is funded, owned and managed by the government authorities. The people or the families trying to avail this facility must fulfill certain eligibility criteria in order to get the house. Minimum charges need to be deposited to the government authorities in the form of rent, to be able to stay in the accommodation.

Father of public housing:

Ernest J. Bohn is considered as the father of public housing. He was an American politician and a leading figure in public housing. He contributed a lot in building public housing for low income families or elderly people.

The benefits of Public Housing are:

• Low income families can easily avail this facility of public housing by paying minimum rental charges.
• The number of people staying on road side reduces as government provides house for staying.
• Low income group need not spend much in order to struggle for a house and thus can save their precious earnings.

The demerits of Public Housing are:

• People may try to fake their income in order to get an accommodation for low price.
• Government may not own and manage the building provided for the stay due to multiple reasons.
• People may misuse the property as they are not the owners and will not stay here for long.
