Discuss the components of the “mouth” and include one usual abnormal finding

Mouth has various components which are as follows:

Mouth is also called buccal or oral cavity which provides air and food to get inside through mouth.

oral cavity is devided into two parts:

1) proper oral cavity and 2) oral vestibules

part 1 mainly consists of Throat:( Mouth empties in the throat) and open outside with lips. Hard pallete, gums and soft palletes come under oral cavity proper.

oral vestibule consists of slit like space between teeth and cheeks , vestibule opening is called oral fissure. Teeth, gum , alveolar process and mobile part of the tounge come under this part.

Parts of oral cavity:

Unusal finding: Mouth assessment gives idea about unusual finding which includes:

• cleft lips, ulcer ,angular stomatitis , carcinoma and herpes simplex are unusual finding of lips
• Bifid vulva, carcinoma is finding from hard palate and vulva
• Abnormal finding in tounge includes: cyanosis, red marked, fissured tounge, atrophic glossitis,carcinoma, macrogolosia.
