Discuss the gallbladder and include one usual abnormal finding
Gallbladder
Gallbladder comes under digestive system.It is a part of biliary tract.It is a pear shaped hollow structure located under the liver and on the right side of the abdomen.The gallbladder is divided into 3 sections that is the fundus ,the body and the neck.The fundus is rounded base angled so that it faces the abdominal wall.The body lies in a depression in the surface of the lower liver.The neck tapers and continuous with the cystic duct part of the biliary tree.The bile secreted by the hepatic cells passes through the hepatic duct and stored and concentrated in the gallbladder.The duct of gall bladder is cystic duct.The common hepatic duct from the liver joins the cystic duct to form common bile duct.The bile which is stored and concentrated in the gallbladder helps in digestion of fats.
Cystic artery and vein supply the gall bladder,vagus nerve innervates the gallbladder.
Abnormal findings;
Gallbladder is mainly affected by gallstones
The stones are usually formed by undissolved material like cholesterol , bilirubin.Bilirubin which is a product of hemoglobin breakdown.
They cause pain in the abdomen mainly in the upper right corner of the abdomen.
It can be treated by removing the gallbladder called cholecystectomy.
