Looking at the various personality theories you read, which one seems to "fit" or make the most sense to you? Explain your reasoning? Now use the Big 5 Trait theory to describe the individual internal qualities and preferences. You can include what motivates the person as well. Now imagine using one of the other theories to describe your personality OR the personality of someone you know. What are the limitations and disadvantges of using this theory to describe someone's personality? Are there any advantages to this theory? how much are personality qualities were "biologically fixed" and how much was shaped by the environment and experiences?

Solutions

Expert Solution

is The big five personality traits are:

  1. Introversion vs extroversion
  2. Agreeableness vs disagreeableness
  3. Openness vs closedness
  4. Conscientiousness vs impulsivity
  5. Neuroticism vs emotional stability

the type of personality that best describes me (hypothetically) is the introversion type of personality. This is because I’m not one of the people who can express their feels as openly as other people do. Also, for me it becomes very difficult to express emotions. Moreover, I would rather confide in one or two people to put forward my weaknesses since the trust factor allows me not to believe everyone.

This kind of personality allows me to always be energised internally allowing me to be aware of my self. I have learnt to be independent. Though, this personality theory is only able to reflect on the inner dilemmas and not on my exterior personality. When in a professional field, I’m amiable, and confident in portraying myself. I would rather consider myself to be an ambivert and not a complete introvert.

Limitations of the big five personality traits is that there will not be prediction of single specific behaviours and advantage is that this theory can properly predict behavior patterns and the predictions are accurate.

2. One personality dimension that seems well recognized by most people is that of introversion-extroversion. Extroverts are described as outgoing, sociable, and fun-loving, whereas introverts are described as reserved and less sociable. Because introverts seem more directed toward their own thoughts and ideas, we might suspect that introverts and extroverts may respond differently to external stimulation such as noise.
