Why is the question of privacy worth revisiting in the era of Big Data? In particular identify at least three aspects that have changed over the last 10 years
Data privacy has always been important.A single company may possess the personal information of millions of customers data that it needs to keep private so that customers’ identities stay as safe and protected as possible.
WHY PRIVACY IS IMPORTANT------
1) Data privacy relates to how a piece of information—or data—should be handled based on its relative importance. For instance, you likely wouldn’t mind sharing your name with a stranger in the process of introducing yourself, but there’s other information you wouldn’t share, at least not until you become more acquainted with that person.
2) In an age where the Internet does not forget, access to technology and technological devices is not only easy but cheap. People are using all kinds of tech products and services and most users sign on to these services without reading through the terms and conditions keenly to ensure that they are protected before sharing their private information.
3) Data protection and privacy are some of the most underrated acts of personal protection. Without proper laws, rules, regulations, and sensitization around data protection and privacy, increasing numbers of corporate and government institutions will continue to exploit user data for their own benefits without proper consent or acknowledgement. And without meaningful data literacy, individuals will continue to share private information online while being oblivious of the impact of their data being made available in this way.
