Experiment: Synthesis of Benzoin:

2.6g of thiamine hydrochloride in a flask was dissolved in 8ml of water, 30 ml of ethanol was added and cooled on an ice bath. 5ml of 3M Sodium Hydroxide was added. 15ml of benzaldehyde was added and heated for 1hr.

Question 1:  how would the amount of  of reagents change if the amount of benzaldehyde was reduced to 1 ml. with calculations please?

Question 2: What is the theoretical weight of the product with calculations please?

A buffered solution containing dissolved aniline, C6H5NH2, and aniline hydrochloride, C6H5NH3Cl, has a pH of 5.61. a) Determine the concentration of C6H5NH3 in the solution if the concentration of C6H5NH2 is 0.200 M. The pKb of aniline is 9.13. b) Calculate the change in pH of the solution, ΔpH, if 0.387 g NaOH is added to the buffer for a final volume of 1.75 L. Assume that any contribution of NaOH to the volume is negligible.

A buffered solution containing dissolved aniline, C6H5NH2, and aniline hydrochloride, C6H5NH3Cl, has a pH of 5.47. a) Determine the concentration of C6H5NH3+ in the solution if the concentration of C6H5NH2 is 0.200 M. The pKb of aniline is 9.13. b) Calculate the change in pH of the solution, delta pH , if 0.393 g NaOH is added to the buffer for a final volume of 1.55 L. Assume that any contribution of NaOH to the volume is negligible.

Dumas Method Experiment: In this experiment, we measured a flask with an aluminum foil and elastic band set up then added 4mL of methanol inside the flask and sealed with the foil covering and boiled in a water bath until all the liquid vaporized (this will drive out any air in the flask and push out all excess vapour). Then we cooled it to let the vapour condense and reweighed the flask with the vapour in it. The following questions...

Dumas Experiment In the Dumas experiment, a pinholed flask apparatus has an empty mass of 216.422 g. When it’s completely filled, it has a volume of 268.5 mL. It’s filled with a few milliliters of a volatile solvent which is allowed to completely evaporate when immersed in a boiling water bath at 100.9oC. Upon removal and cooling to room temperature, the flask mass has increased to 217.504 g. The atmospheric pressure is 29.97 inches of Hg. 11. Reexpress the temperature...

A compound with molecular mass = 292.16 g/mol was dissolved in a 5.000 mL volumetric flask. A 1.000 mL aliquot was withdrawn, placed in a 10.000 mL flask and diluted to volume. The apparent absorbance of the diluted solution at 340 nm was 0.827 in a 1.000 cm cuvette. To check for a possible stray light effect, this sample was diluted by exactly a factor of 2; the apparent absorbance was now 0.421. A reagent blank showed negligible absorbance. The...
