1. true or false? carbon dioxide level increases in the atmosphere correlate with increases in other greenhouse gases

Select one:

True

False

Solutions

Expert Solution

ItsI true.

The climate on earth is getting warmer. The most common theory relates an increase in atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas, to increases in temperature. Here is a scatterplot showing the mean annual CO2 concentration in the atmosphere, measured in parts per million (ppm) at the top of Mauna Loa in Hawaii, and the mean annual air temperature over both land and sea across the globe, in degrees Celsius (°C).

A regression predicting temperature from CO2 produces the following output table.

It can be showing the mean annual carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere and the mean annual temperature measured in degrees Celsius from the scatterplot of the information regarding problem. It is required to find the correlation between carbon dioxide and temperature. Correlation describes the strength of the relationship between the two variables. Correlation can be calculated by taking the square root of the R-squared. We are given that the R-squared for these data is 67.8% or 0.678.

Correlation=√R-squared=√0.678=Therefore, the correlation between Carbon Dioxide and Temperature is 0.8234.

The greenhouse gas is composed of

  1. Water vapor. : Water vapor increases as the Earth's atmosphere warms, but so does the possibility of clouds and precipitation, making these some of the most important feedback mechanisms to the greenhouse effect.
  2. Carbon dioxide (CO2). It is released through natural processes such as respiration and volcano eruptions and through human activities such as deforestation, land use changes, and burning fossil fuels.
  3. Methane. Produced through natural sources and human activities, including the decomposition of wastes in landfills, agriculture, and especially rice cultivation, as well as ruminant digestion and manure management associated with domestic livestock.
  4. Nitrous oxide. A powerful greenhouse gas produced by soil cultivation practices, especially the use of commercial and organic fertilizers, fossil fuel combustion, nitric acid production, and biomass burning.
  5. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Synthetic compounds entirely of industrial origin used in a number of applications, but now largely regulated in production and release to the atmosphere by international agreement for their ability to contribute to destruction of the ozone layer.

On Earth’climate is severly impacted by human intervention due to which earth’s temperature is rising continuously popularly known as greenhouse gas effect.

Hope this helps!!
