what similarities can you find between the discrimination faced by other minority groups and the Muslim community?
Derives less from Psychology but the basic premise of discrimination is from the field of psychology.
Minorities groups have people who are less in number on the basis of language/culture/race /ethnic background/religion/place of origin/etc.
They face discrimination because they are bereft of their own place of authority. They are assumed to be a minor subset of the bigger gamut of the whole. Their sentiments regarding their religious practise, culture, food, dressing, political views and orientation is not addressed with sentivity. They are expected to assimilate in the bigger whole inspite of not sharing the same sentiments.
Muslims are viewed with prejudice across the globe for various reasons. They are viewed as outsiders in both the occidental and the oriental culture. Across world history they are looked as invaders who believed in loot and plunder and then they peacefully assimilated in the respective culture and became a part of that country. following the various attacks at places across the globe and the more radical approach taking the front seat. Muslims, majorly are viewed as the ones who propogate violence. This is a rationally incorrect premise.
So the first point of discrimination goes with the fact that they are viewed as alien to that country. They are expected to assimilate with the cultutre of that respective country.
Their religious rituals and peculiar dressing has proven to be a hint for a culprit to attack. The peculiar dressing of theirs imply that they are staunch and do not consider themselves as a part of the new background.
Their political views are also looked as a way to fetch criticism as they are viewed as the ones who will never pay their loyalty to the country of their residence. They would serve their particular community before duty.
Hence they are denied prime commanding positions in higher companies and their rleigious principles are viewed as their inability to change or adapt.
