What would happen if you outran the expansion of the universe. What would you find. Please give thorough explanation?

Expert Solution

Ond cannot travel faster than the speed of light, and the Universe is expanding at the speed of light, so we couldn't outrun it.

Also, if we are thinking that the universe is like a balloon with all existence trapped inside and nothingness dwelling on the outside. In actuality, all existence dwells on the surface of the balloon as it expands. When you travel, you can only travel on the surface. We cannot go in the balloon, or outside the balloon.

Let us suppose the universe is like a raisin cake that's expanding as it's being cooked. We're all inside the cake watching the raisins/galaxies move away from us and each other as the cake expands. However, there is nothing beyond the cake....no space, no time, no nothin! The cake is all that there is and it's not infinite in size. That's the meaning of "finite and unbounded". We assume it's expanding spherically as most expansions do, but the added space is all internal to the cake/universe.
