COAGULANT DRUGS :-
Definition :-
Coagulants are the agents which promotes coagulation .
They are indicated in hemorrhagic states .
Coagulant drugs :-
1. Vitamin K :-
Vitamin K exists in 3 different forms :
● Vitamin K1 :- (derived from plants)
- Phylloquinone
● Vitamin K2 :-
- Menaquinone
● Vitamin K3 :- (synthetic)
i. Fat soluble :-
- Menadione
- Acetomenaphthone
ii. Water soluble :-
- Menadione sodium bisulfate
- Menadione sodium diphosphate
Action :-
- Vitamin K acts as cofactor for synthesis of clotting factors , mainly factors II , VII , IX and X
- It participate in carboxylation of the glutamic acid residue of prothrombin .
- It is also involved in electron transport (coenzyme ) and oxidative phosphorylation .
Therapeutic uses :-
◆ In the adults , vitamin K deficiency due to malabsorption , prolonged malnutrition , jaundice
◆ Vit . K deficiency in infant due to diarrhoea
◆ Neonatal vit. K deficiency
◆ Overdose of oral anticoagulants or bleeding state during oral anticoagulants therapy.
2. Miscellaneous drugs :-
● Human fibrinogen
● Antihemophilic factor
● Desmopressin
● Adrenochrome monosemicarbazone
● Rutin
● Ethamsylate
