What is the molality of a solution containing 50.6 mL of water (d= 1.00 g/mL) and 0.122 g of 2-pentanol?

molar mass of 2-pentanol = 88.15 g / mol

moles of 2-pentanol = mass / molar mass

                                = 0.122 / 88.15

                               = 1.384 x 10^-3

mass of water = volume x density

                       = 50.6 x 1.00

                       = 50.6 g

                      = 0.0506 kg

molality = moles of solute / mass of solvent

              = 1.384 x 10^-3 / 0.0506

              = 0.0274 m

molality = 0.0274 m
