explain the operation of brushed and brush less dc motors
compare their performance.

Solutions

Expert Solution

operation of brush dc motor

Current are conducted from the armature to the external load by the carbon brushes which are held aganist the surface of the commutator by springs

function: To collect the current from the commutator and appl it to the external load in generator ans vice versa in motor

Operation of brushlless dc motor:

Brushless dc motor employs an electronic commutator and uses hall effect sensors to sense the position of the rotor and switch the phase accordingly.

The output from hall sensors changes for every 60 degrees of rotation thus defining six conduction zones. The switching of the inverter is arranged to give symmetrical current pulses Iu,Iv,Iw of 120 degrees duration in both directions through each phase winding of the motor.

brushless dc motor has no sparks,no wear out, no extra friction.More efficient than brush dc motor.

High speed control by brushless dc motor ,ther is no speed control in brush dc motor

Speed control of motors (ac motors as well as dc motors) can be accomplished by using solid-state switching circuitry In one such method, a solid-state relay is activated using a switching signal generated by a microcomputer so as to turn on and off at high speed, the power into the motor drive circuit. Speed of the motor can be measured using a sensor such as tachometer or optical encoder. This signal is read by the microcomputer and is used to...
