Labrum is s dense fibrous cartilage which is found in the capsule of shoulder joint. The shoulder joint is a type of ball and socket joint. The labrum is thick tissue mass which is present at the periphery of the socket and which deepens the socket where the ball of humerus fits.
Thus the labrum provide stability to the shoulder joint and helps the ball to be in the place.
Truncation means shortening or tearing of the cartilaginous tissue of the labrum. The tearing or shortening of the labrum will make the shoulder joint unstable. This can lead to dislocation or subluxation of the shoulder joint.
The treatment of this condition is surgery of the labrum.
A incision is made at the site of dislocation. The labrum which is displaced from its position is made to reposition. The extra and damaged part of labrum is removed and replaced with the new cartilage. And if any dislocation is present, then it is also surgically repositioned.
