Genomic data refers to the genome and DNA data of an organism. They are used in collecting, storing and processing the genomes of living things.

Advances in genomic technology makes it easier and cheaper to analyse genes, offer information to help diagnose, manage and treat genetic disease. Knowing about our own genomewill have a greater impact in the quality of our life. for example, because of a geneticvariant, many people cant digest milk past the nursing age.

Benefits of Genomic Data:

  • Identification of disease genes have applications in clinical diagnostics and predictive testing.
  • New treatments can be developed by identifying new drug targets or tailoring drugs according to the genetic characteristics of an individual
  • In developing preventive measures, genomics helpsin identifying mulltiple vaccine targets
  • economic benefits

Risks of genomic data:

  • Inappropriate use of geomic data poses risks asit can be used in identification of an individual.
  • Genomic tests are not100% reliable
  • DNA data consists of sensitive informationabout health and identity. It contains ancestral information, information about allergies, cancers etc..which can be used against us if they fall into the wrong hands

Hi Max.Thanks so much for starting our discussion this week! You made an excellent point about the principle of conservatism! When some people hear that accountants are conservative, they may misconstrue it to assume that the accountants are intentionally understating accounts. However, this is not the case at all. It simply means that we stay on the side of caution and upon equally likely outcomes, we assume the one that is the least likely to overstate net income or net...

M It is no surprise that there is so much data being collected. I was surprised at how many organizations there are the are responsible for data collection. Data that where the participant involvement isn’t voluntary or require effort seems easier to collect and more accurate, such as infant mortality or other statistics around death. Information about cause of death and the characteristics influencing it is often collected by medical professionals within the hospital. Other organization seem to face more...
