ANATOMY OF SKELETAL MUSCLES
Skeletal muscle are the striated muscle or voluntary muscles. Which acts according to the voluntary action of individuals.
Skeletal muscle structure:
Composed of muscle cells(fibers) , connective Tissue and blood vessels. These fibers are long and multi nucleated. These nuclei are Peripherally situated. It has a striated appearance . It develops from myoblasts.
Muscle fibers anatomy
1. SARCOLEMMA: is the cell membrane. Surrounds the sarcoplasm( cytoplasm of the fiber)
2. MYOFIBRILS: are bundles of protein filament. It is a cylindrical structure in muscle fiber. It has two types filaments
A) actin ( thin)
B) myosin( thick)
All the myofibrils are arranged parallel to the long axis of cells

Features of skeletal muscle:
Presence of striations due to the presence of alternative dark and light bands
A dark band ( A band) contains thin and thick filaments, and it is anisometropic to polarized light.
H zone
A light band only contains light thin filaments. , and it is isotropic to polarized light. Each band is bisected by z line.
SARCOMERE
The portion of myofibrils between two successive z lines.

PARTS OF SKELETAL MUSCLE
1.FLESHY PART
2. FIBROUS PART
a. Tendinous
b. Aponeurotic
CLASSIFICATION ( according to color)
Red muscle
White muscle
2. ACCORDING TO DIRECTION of muscle fibers
Quadri lateral
Strap
Strap with tendinous intersection
Fusiform
Digastric

Spiral.
MUSCLE ACTION
1 PRIME MOVER
2.ANTAGONIST
3.fixator
4.synergist.
