1. moderate drinking is considered 2 drinks per day for men and 1 drink per day for women. However, at-risk drinking is considered two or more episodes of binge drinking in the past month or consuming an average of two or more alcoholic drinks per day in the past month. You could technically meet the criteria for “moderate” drinking but also be in the “at-risk” category as well. Are you surprised by these classifications? Do you fall under the category of at-risk drinking?

2. For fun, recall the amount of alcohol you consumed over the last week. What days did you drink? How much did you have? Have you engaged in binge drinking in the last month (5 or more drinks on one occasion)? Where were you? How good of a judge do you think you are about keeping track of how many drinks you’ve had?

3. In regards to consequences of risky drinking, do you feel more motivated to keep better track of how much you drink?

4. What do you think has the most effect on how much you drink? (Think biopsychosocial factors).

1.No doubt,Men are more then Women, 9.8 million men and 5.3 million women.

Increased tolerance might not be viewed as problematic by heavy drinkers when they come to treatment, especially when the time elapsed between the onset of the disorder and treatment is long. Additionally, the social tolerance of heavy drinking and local policies might also affect the probability of having problems associated with substance use.

Gender, as one of the most important social variables in most cultures, can mediate the prevalence and type of alcohol-related problems and consequences, and also the willingness to endorse symptoms and seek specialized treatment.

Harmful use commonly - but not invariably - has adverse social consequences; however, social consequences in themselves are not sufficient to justify a diagnosis of harmful use. Thus, the definition of harmful use in the ICD is less likely to lead to under-reporting because it does not rely on social consequences which minimize the under-reporting of damage in the absence of dependence.

Studies have shown that females begin having alcohol-related problems at lower levels of alcohol consumption than males.

Differneces between Men and Women-

  • Females have less water in their bodies
  • Women generally weigh less than men
  • Women usually have lower levels of alcohol dehydrogenase
  • Hormonal factors may also play a role

2.Binge drinking is the practice of consuming large quantities of alcohol in a single session, usually defined as five or more drinks at one time for a man, or four or more drinks at one time for a woman.

No,it will directly afftect to our body drinking 5 or more drinks on one occasion.

3.Consequences of Risky Drinking-

Intoxication

Injuries-Drinking too much increases your chances of being injured or even killed. Alcohol is a factor, for example, in about 60% of fatal burn injuries, drownings, and homicides; 50% of severe trauma injuries and sexual assaults; and 40% of fatal motor vehicle crashes, suicides, and fatal falls.

Health problems-People who drink heavily have a greater risk of liver disease, heart disease, sleep disorders, depression, stroke, bleeding from the stomach, sexually transmitted infections from unsafe sex, and several types of cancer.

Birth defects-Drinking during pregnancy can cause brain damage and other serious problems in the baby

Alcohol use disorders-An alcohol use disorder is a medical condition that doctors can diagnose when a patient's drinking causes distress or harm. In the United States, about 17 million people have an alcohol use disorder.

4.Drinking too much can weaken your immune system, making your body a much easier target for disease. Chronic drinkers are more liable to contract diseases like pneumonia and tuberculosis than people who do not drink too much. Drinking a lot on a single occasion slows your body's ability to ward off infections. It increases the risk for sexual assault, violence and self harm.
