1. Describe how the Noyes Witney equation is just a version of Fick’s Law.

2. What factors influence the dissolution rate?

Solutions

Expert Solution

The following factors influence the rate of dissolution of a substance:

1. Temperature.

2. Particular size of solute

3. Agitation (concentration of the solvent)

4. Solvent selection (properties of solvent)

Temperature: - Dissolution of sold (solute) in a liquid involves the absorption of heat. If the temperature is increased then the dissolution will be more & if the temperature is decreased than the dissolution will be less. So, dissolution depends on the temperature.

Particle Size: - The dissolution rate of (d) depends on its particle size. Smaller particle size, dissolution will be more and larger the particle size, dissolution will be less. The absorption depends upon the dissolution rate of (d). So determination of dissolution rate of any solute (d) is very important.

Agitation: - Dissolution also depends on the concentration of the solvent. If the solvent is more concentrated dissolution will be less. If the solvent is less concentrated dissolution will be more.

Solvent selection: - Dissolution also depends on the concentration of the solvent. In water dissolution rate will be more than oily solvent.
