Produce a diagram explaining the reabsorption of Ca2+ and Mg2+ at the proximal tubule of a nephron. Are these processes examples of paracellular or transcellular transport? What is the driving force that maintains these transport mechanisms?
answer) the absorption of calcium and magnesium is dependent on the water moecules and sodium molecules and its a passive process that it means it cross membrane thus it is a paracellular transport.
CALCIUM: so the driving force is sodium and water for calcium absorption in PCT. And mainly occured by passsive diffusion and a solvent drag.around 80% of calcium is reabsobrd in the prximal oarrt of nephron. it is a two step process which calium entry from the tubular fluid across the apical membrane and exit through the basolateral membrane.
MAGNESIUM:it is also absorbed by a paracellular transport and it is driven by sodium and water.
