Suggest a single, specific malfunction in the immune system that would affect at least three other systems. For each system, explain how it would be affected and what that system would do to bring the body back to homeostasis. (Note: an infection is not necessarily a malfunction)
The malfunction of the immune system affects it definitely mistakes the self body as the non self.So that it attacks body's own tissues. This takes place because of the weakened immune system.Body generates immune response against it self that is autoimmune disorders.
Single malfunction of immune system leads to affect many other systems. The disorders or malfunctions are
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Hashimoto thyroiditis
Systemic lupus erythematosus
As infection is not necessarily a malfunction, we can consider Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.
Systemic lupus erythematosus: SLE is an autoimmune disorder that destroys are attacks body's own tissues. This affects joints, skin , kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and also lungs.
So SLE affects Cerebro vascular system, cardio vascular system, integumentary system, skeletal system etc.
Cardiovascular: SLE causes infection to myocardial of the heart. This is actually a major complication of lupus which leads to death. This reaches myocardium through the initial inflammation of pericardium.
Cerebrovascular: SLE leads to neuropsychiatric disorders which is progressively increasing death of the people.Ischemic stroke is the initial manifestation of SLE.Atherosclerosis and embolism associated with lupus are the main causes for cerebrovascular problems.
Skeletal system : Lupus attacks skeletal system by causing pain and severe arthritis. This causes pain and long term damage by causing inflammation. Some medications that were used for lupus may also cause osteoporosis.
Homeostasis in lupus can be maintained by certain drugs such as 10mg prednisone per day.System maintains its homeostasis through symptomatic treatment.High doses of cytotoxic ,cyclophosphamidetherapies.Antiinflammatory drugs and immunosuppressants etc.
