Pulmonary ventilation consits of what two phases? define each adn then pick one and gave the sequence of events for that phase
Pulmonary ventilation also is known as breathing. It is the process of moving air in and out of the lung and due to a pressure gradient between lung and atmosphere.
Pulmonary ventilation consists of two phases: Inspiration and expiration
Inspiration also is known as inhalation and it is the process of taking air into the lung (especially O2) when the alveolar pressure is less than atmospheric pressure.
Expiration also is known as exhalation and it is the process of removing air (CO2) from the lung when the alveolar pressure is greater than atmospheric pressure.
The diaphragm is a dome-shaped skeletal muscle that separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity. It is the main muscle in respiration. The contraction of diaphragm flattens the diaphragm decreases. Relaxation of diaphragm maintain the dome shape
