You and your team are now working on some icons for the organization’s program user interface (UI). Based on your first mock-up of the UI, complete the following: Discuss 2 original icons with 3 states each. Explain how the icons would be used, and give the purpose of each state. Investigate emerging alternative I/O devices and discuss their impacts on design.
Discuss two original UI icons with three states, how the icons would be used and purpose of each state.
When a user interacts with an icon it changes state as if the icon were speaking to the user. Icon states are a way for the interface design to communicate information to the user.
The states of the icon would be normal, hover and pressed state.
The two original icons we are taking here as example is files, and download
The icon files is used in the application to access the various contents from the computer or network where the application is running.
In normal state of the icon 'file' has it's own normal properties. It retain it's border, shape, colour, size, position on it. That's how it is on the application till the user pointer reaches nearby of the icon.
In the second state hover of the icon file when the ponter reaches the icon it blinks or changes it's colour lightly. And also we can add to show sub options like open from drive, show recent files etc.
In the state pressed for file icon It shows the options like folder names, file names to choose from.
In the icon download the normal state would be the size, position, colour of the icon with the arrow symbol on it.
In the hover state the icon download changes or blinks it's colour slightly.
In the pressed state it does it's function of downloading the file which can contain anything like audio, video or texts from this application to the user device. And the icon shows the percentage of download by loading a line of green colour .
Emerging alternative I/O devices and thier impact on design.
The various I/O devices are emerging and in use and impacting on design like they should attractive, compatible and looks more interactive when used with any technologies.
For example for pointing an icon the user can reach through a touchscreen, pointing device like mouse, joystick, lightpen or a track ball.
The whole designing concept not just include the design of icon it includes the whole thing that we can see on the screen.
User and computer can exchange information and instructions through a user interface. Three main types of user interface are used command line, menu driven and graphical user interface.
User interface can be designed for a software or a hardware and most of them are a combination of both. For example to control a program in software we use pointing device like monitor and keyboard to interact likewise while using a digital camera we school through the touch screen to interact.
Most hardware devices include user interface like a TV remote control.
