Select one (1) project from your working or educational environment that you would use the hypothesis test technique. Next, propose the hypothesis structure (e.g., the null hypothesis, data collection process, confidence interval, test statistics, reject or not reject the decision, etc.) for the business process of the selected project. Provide a rationale for your response. Evaluation
Suppose we want to test the following claim:
The mean score in math test of students in a particular class is less than 85. (Maximum score is 100).
Suppose based on a sample of 40 students, we obtain the mean score as 82 and the standard deviation is 10.
Here, the null hypothesis is, H0: 85.
The alternative hypothesis is, H1: < 85.
is the population mean score.
The data collection process has been made randomly. Assuming the class strength of 120, we have randomly selected 40 students from the class and obtained their scores.
The test-statistic is, T = , where, = 82, s = 10, n = 40
Thus, T = -1.8974
Under H0, T ~ t-distribution with (n-1) d.f. i.e. 39 d.f.
Let's assume the level of significance to be 5%.
The p-value of the test = P(T < -1.8974) = 0.0326
Since, p-value < level of significance (0.05), we reject the null hypothesis H0.
We conclude there is enough evidence to claim that the mean score of students of the class in math test is less than 85.
