In a liquid transmission pipeline, a pump had been designed for a throughput of 10,000 bpd. However the demand has increased by 25%. It has been proposed to increase the impeller diameter and speed in order to meet the new demand. However, the impeller diameter increase is limited to10%. The original speed of the pump is 1200 rpm and the original power is 60 kW. Calculate A. The new speed of the pump. B. The new shaft power of the pump.
Pump demand (Q1) = 10000 bpd
Assuming Diameter of impeller = D1
Demand increased by 25% then,
New pump demand (Q2) = 10000*1.25 = 12500 bpd
Original speed of pump (N1) = 1200 rpm
Original shaft power (P1) = 60 KW
In order to meet new demand, proposed to increase the impeller diameter which is limited to 10% only.
New impeller diameter D2 = 1.1D1
