Craft or an Open Ended Creative Art Experience. Which do you think is more beneficial to children? How so?
Craft art experience is more concrete than open ended creative art experience. Craft art includes a stipulated form of art that is demonstrated to the child which he must follow to achieve a final product. However, an open ended creative art experience includes providing the child with materials without telling them what to do. The child uses his own imagination to build something out of the material provided to him. For instance, St. Patrick's Day is approaching, instead of demonstrating a craft class, the teacher must simply give away some material to each student. Now, it is up to the child how he makes the leprechaun trap. Open ended creative art experience can be used in any scenario where the child is left to use his imagination instead of assistance and guidance. This kind of creative art experience lets a child unfold his imagination and be more creative. Thus, the open ended creative art experience is more beneficial.
