Expert Solution

It is a very important step as the waste water treatment plants will also treat waste water water which is being originated from the industrial activity of the textile mills. The water which is originated from these mills would not be hazardous to an high extent but yes it is not suitable for domestic use and variety of chemicals are also mixed in it. Below are the process that needs to be added to the wastewater treatment plants. A slight modification needs to be done in order to treat the water originating from the textile mills in future.

  • The first step involved in treating the textile water is screening and removing the smaller particles that may be of the clothes or any other waste. Generally this process is also done in the treatment of other types of waste water.
  • The next step is Homogenization of water. This step is being useful for the mix of water and the pollution or the dirt content is being distributed. it is an effective biological cleaning step and microorganisms also helps in the cleaning of water.
  • Physical-Chemical treatment is done and it is the most important process that is being required here and would need to be proposed in the plants as it removes the chemical content from the water or if the color amount is very much high. It contains various process and the suitable one according to the conditions may be used. Flocculation or decolouring with floatation may be use to treat coloured water.
  • The last requirement is De-inking of the textile water as it is required in some cases only and it removes the colour by oxidation and adsorption phenomenon.

All the above are the appropriate process that need to be modified or added to the plants in order to make them suitable for treating the wastewater originated from the textile industry.

A wastewater treatment plant that treats wastewater to secondary treatment standards uses a primary sedimentation process followed by an activated sludge process composed of aeration tanks and a secondary clarifiers. This problem focuses on the activated sludge process. The activated sludge process receives a flow of 15 million gallons per day (MGD). The primary sedimentation process effluent has a BOD5 concentration of 180 mgBOD5/L (this concentration is often referred as S). Before flowing into the activated sludge process, the primary...

A municipal wastewater treatment plant discharges 20,000 m3/d of treated wastewater to a stream. The wastewater has a BOD5 of 30 mg/L with a k1 of 0.23 d-1. The temperature of the wastewater is 20 oC, and the dissolved oxygen is 2.0 mg/L. The stream just above the point of wastewater discharge flows at 0.65 m3/s, has a BOD5 of 5.0 mg/L, and is 90% saturated with oxygen. The temperature of the stream is also 20 oC. After mixing, the...
