Project management is a very extensive and intense exercise that includes a number of team members handling the projects and the various types of stakeholders whose interests are connected with the project directly and indirectly.
Effective communication can determine the success or failure of any project, with the help of proper communication the project team can minimize the different types of risks involved in the project. The project manager has to communicate the different types of information to both the team members and the stakeholders. At the same time, he or she has to collect the information from the various sources to mitigate and be ready for the various challenges and risks. All this is not possible in the absence o effective communication.
The basic difference between the formal and informal communication is that the formal communication takes place with the help of predefined channel within the organization, on the other hand, there is no set of rules and regulations that are to be followed in case of informal communication as this takes place in every possible direction. It has greater speed than formal communication.
