Silent hypoxia is a type pneumonia that affects the lung and oxygen without any obvious warning signs. The oxygen levels drops , but there is no actual signs and symptoms visible in the patient. This type of Hypoxia is found as a common condition in the COVID-19 patients.

If the oxygen level goes below to 95% in the pulse oximeter, the pulse oxymetry alerts the patient and the doctor about the potential danger .In COVID-19 patients there will be low pulse oximeter readings.

A pulse Oximeter is a device which measures the oxygen saturation of the Haemoglobin in the blood.i.e. The percentage of Haemoglobin that oxygen bound to it.In a normal person, it will be about 97-100%.In case of pneumonia such as COVID-19, the reason for hypoxia may be a mechanical obstruction or fluid filled in the alveoli thus gas exchange is having Issues with it.

Pulse oximeter sensor is fit on a finger, and turn it on.Check for the readings. The blood pumped from the heart reaches the finger tip tissues. The pulse oximeter emits an infrared light from the diodes on one side, on the other side receives the light and shows the % of infrared light received.

The Corona virus is much more serious since it attacks a part of haemoglobin. Some research proves that it attacks the beta chain of the Hb molecule, which is responsible for carrying the oxygen. This will result in break down in the structure of Hb(UNFOLDING OCCURS).Since unfolding of the protein occurs, it can't function properly. In such cases, the patient have no issues with the breathing, but the oxygenation is low.Even though enough oxygen is inhaled, due to the attack of the virus, Hb molecule can't carry the oxygen to deliver to the tissues. This will make more complication besides the low oxygen saturation level.Hence oxygenation of the tissue is more important than the ventilation of the lung. in managing COVID-19.
