a. |
it contains DNA for fertilization |
|
b. |
it contains hydrolytic enzymes |
|
c. |
it contains RNA and ribosomes for sperm protein synthesis |
|
d. |
it provides more energy to the sperm |
Question 13
After ovulation what structure forms?
a. |
tunica vaginalis |
|
b. |
corpus luteum |
|
c. |
ovarian ligament |
|
d. |
primordial follicle |
Question 2
What is the main function of the structure that forms after ovulation?
a. |
produce progesterone |
|
b. |
produce testosterone |
|
c. |
produce FHS |
|
d. |
produce LH |
12.ans)option B- it contains hydrolytic enzymes
Explanation - sperm contains head, neck, middle piece and tail.
Head of sperm is covered by cap like structure called acrosome.
Acrosome consists of hydrolytic enzymes (hyaluronidase, mucopolysaccharides, proteases, acid phosphatase) that are involved in the penetration of the ovum, thus helps in fertilization of ovum.
Other options are incorrect-
Option A is incorrect - As the substance that contains DNA for fertilization is nucleus.
Nucleus is present in the head of sperm.
Option C is incorrect - As epididymis contains RNA and ribosomes for the sperm protein synthesis.
RNA and ribosomes are distributed to sperms, when sperm matured and released from the epididymis.
Option D is incorrect - As the substance which provides energy for sperm is mitochondria.
In the middle piece, mitochondria is present which produce energy for the movement of tail of the sperm.
13.ans)option B-corpus luteum
Explanation - After ovulation(release of ovum from the ovary), corpus luteum is formed.
After ovulation, capillaries from the theca interna invade the rapidly dividing granulosa layer and the clotted blood is replaced with yellowish, lipid rich luteal cells, forming the corpus luteum.
Other options are incorrect -
-option A is incorrect - As tunica vaginalis is pouch of serous membrane(peritoneal layer), which covers the testis (present in the males).
So tunica vaginalis is not produced after ovulation and not present in the females.
Option C is incorrect - As ovarian ligament is a gubernaculum( a fibrous fold) extends from the ovary to the junction of the uterus and uterine tube.
It is not formed after ovulation.
Option D is incorrect - As primordial foliicle is formed during maturation of primary oocyte.
During the course of maturation of primary oocyte, it is surrounded by a basal lamina to form a primordial follicle.
2.ans) The main function of the structure that forms after ovulation
Option A-produces progesterone
Explanation - After ovulation, corpus luteum is formed.
Progesterone is secreted by luteal cells of the corpus luteum.
If fertilization occurs, progesterone is secreted form corpus luteum. Progesterone helps in maintainence of pregnancy i.e it prepares the uterus for implantation of fertilized ovum.
Option B is incorrect-As testosterone is produced by leydig cells of testis and zona reticularis layer of adrenal cortex.
Option C is incorrect-As follicle stimulating hormone is produced from the anterior pituitary gland, which helps in development of ovarian follicles in females and development of sperms in males.
Option D is incorrect - As luteinizing hormone(LH) is produced anterior pituitary gland, which helps in secretion of testosterone in males and stimulates ovulation in females.
