The median voter theorem states that a majority rule voting system will choose the result which has the preference of the median voter. This theorem is best applicable in a political system in which there are two parties involved and the voters can be arranged in a broad pattern.This applies to the current US system.University of Tennessee's professor believes that if the Democrats go far to the left of the median voter , they lose and the Republicans will win.This means if the Democrats go to the left,the Republicans, in order to win will go further left in order to take all voters on their side of median and they will win. This theorem is based on two most important assumptions apart from many other assumptions.that voters can put all the alternatives in one dimension political pattern and secondly voters have only one preference ie they are in favor of one Voters are more inclined to cast their vote for their true preference.
