how can i apply the concept of normal distribution in civil engineering?
There are many applications of normal distribution in every field, even naturally occurring events follow the normal distribution, so similarly it has its own applications in the field of civil engineering as well.
1. In traffic engineering, while dealing with the speed data, which follows the distributions of the continuous random variable, which is normally distributed is very helpful while dealing with the samples
2.In structural and construction engineering, the load fluctuations or the compressive strengths of the materials varies in a normal distribution. Therefore, to calculate the factor of safety, which is really important for the sustenance of the constructions, normal distribution is used.
3.The water resource engineering, as i have already mentioned most of the naturally occuring events follow normal distribution, similarly to calculate the turbulence variation, normal distribution is used.
4. The cohesive strength of the soil varies a lot with the pattern of normal distribution, therefore in the geotechnical industry, this is used.
