1. Why patella is important for the patellofemoral joint complex?
2. Explain why the “core” is important when it comes to the stability of the upper and lower extremity?
Answer 1:
Patella is important for patellofemoral joint complex because it provides stability to the patellar tendon and it also minimises the force on condyles of femur. Patella also helps in knee extension by increasing the angle that the quadriceps tendons exert on the femur.
Answer 2:
The muscles of the front, back and sides of the body i.e traverse abdominis, erector spinae, obliques and lower latssimus forms the core of the body. These muscles keeps the trunk of the body upright while doing any physical activity and also allows the pelvis, hips and lower back of the body to work together in a smooth manner. Arms and legs are all connected to the core muscles hence more stronger the core muscles are the more stability will be provided to the upper and lower extremities of the body. These core muscles prevents the spinal cord from bending or flexing in an in unintentional way and hence provides stability and balance.
