Depression is a state of mind where an individual feels sad and
very low. HE losses his selfworth and also the worth of his life.
This can lead to various problems both mentally and physically in
an individual. It is also a mood diorder where the individual also
haves problems in performing the daily activities of their
life.
The two major types of depression
are as follows:
- Major depressive disorder: This
type of depression is very severe. In this form of depression the
person who is diagnosed with it losses his hope and his self worth
and is sad. This characters hard to disappear on its own. The
symptoms are difficulty in sleeping, changes in body weight,
feeling depressed majority part of the day, fatigue, less
concentration, suicidal thoughts, etc. If a person experiences more
than 5 symptoms mentioned above for 2weeks or more than that that
he is diagnosed with major depressive disorder.
- Persistent depressive disorder:
This not a severe form of depression. The symptoms are lack of
interest in daily tasks, less resourceful, less hope, lack of self
esteem. If a person is having this symptoms then for minimum 2
years then he is diagnosed with persistent depressive
disorder.
There are
many causes of depression are as follows:
- Genetic factors: If depression
runs in the family then a person has a chances of depression. Its
like different genes leads to the effect of depression in a
person.
- Hormonal factors: The production
of the hormones and their functions can cause depression. Hormonal
changes that leads to thyroid, puberty, menopause can also lead to
depression.
- Lifestyle factors: Some lifestyle
activities which has a negative impact on the lifestyle like poor
sleep cycle, having high amount of caffeine, substance abuse, etc
can also lead to depression.
- Environmental factors: Some of the
environmental causes of depression are- i) demotivating
environment: if the people with whom we are surrounding ourselves
are not supportive or demotivating a person continuously this can
lead to depression. Ii) Low socio-economic status: When a person
feels like he does not match up with the socio economic status as
per as the society then he may feel sad and may have difficulties
emotional which leads to depression. Iii) Unhealthy socialization:
This can be also the factor of depression. When a person has a
unhealthy peer group then he or she may be depressed due to
improper socialization or having a bad influence by
them.
