Task 1:

a)  Assume the mix is made with Type I cement, with no pozzolans or admixtures, and that the temperature of concrete at placing is 75°F. The unit weight of concrete is 150 pcf with a slump of 3.75 inches.

Design forms for 13’-8” high wall to be concreted at the rate of 6 ft per hour, internally vibrated. The forms will be used only once, so short-term loading stresses will apply.

Use form grade plywood sheathing 7/8 in. thick in 5×10-ft sheets, and 5,250-lb coil ties are on hand Framing lumber of No. 2 Douglas Fir-Larch is to be purchased as required.

b) Draw the pressure diagram for a wall form 15 feet tall in which concrete will be placed at a rate R = 10 feet per hour when the temperature is 60oF. Draw the diagram if the wall were only 6 feet tall.

Question 1) WA cement Limited manufactures cement mix for large construction companies. It has thee overhead costs to allocate. These are rent ($300,000), electricity ($200,000) and insurance (100,000) costs. These costs need to be allocated to four departments- quality control, maintenance, fabrications and mixing. The first two department has service departments. Rent costs are to be allocated on the basis of floor space occupied, while electricity costs are allocated the basis of machine hours. Finally, insurance costs are allocated on...
