18 –List the various states of Maslow’s theory.
Maslow's hierarchy of needs - It is a theory in psychology consisting of a five-step model of needs of human which is regularly portrayed as hierarchical levels within a pyramid. Maslow said that people are driven to conquer some requirements and those needs take priority over other needs. Our most elementary need is physical survival, and being the most important need this stimulates our conduct. Once that level is content the next level up is what encourages us, and so on and so forth.
There are five stages in this unique hierarchy of needs which are as follows:
1. Biological and physical needs - air, food, water, accommodation, warmth, sleep, sex.
2. Safety requirements - protection from elements, safekeeping, order, decree, constancy, liberty from fear.
3. Belongingness and Love needs - relationship, closeness, belief, and acceptance, getting and giving love and affection. Being part of a group, which may be friends, family, workplace.
4. Esteem needs – This has been further classified into two parts (i) honour for oneself (freedom, accomplishment, proficiency, self-respect) and (ii) the wish for repute or admiration from others (e.g., prestige, status). Maslow specified that the want for veneration or repute is utmost imperative for children and teenagers and comes before real self-esteem or self-respect.
5. Self-actualization needs - understanding personal capability, self-fulfilment, looking for individual development and highest skills. A craving “to become everything one is skilled of becoming”.
