Regarding routine activities theory, which places, residences, or areas of your hometown do you feel fits this idea that certain places attract more crime than others (i.e. hotspots)? Explain how you, your friends, or others (including police) in your community deal with such areas. Does it work? Be specific
The broken window theory would be appropriate to adjudge the localities that are known to attract criminal activities and maladaptive behavior amongst community members.
It is a given that an areas that festers with an environment of sloppy management will attract the kind.
Maintenance and surveillance are an imperative when it comes to such areas. As it would send a message of having importance adhered to it, and hence being within the purview of the radar of law. .
It has scope for success as people attribute qualities to a certain area with respect to how it is and has been. If a place insinuates crime, it will be an open invitation for more crime, but if a place is maintained and kept a regular check on, it would insinuate importance, and gradually remove that place from the list of criminal hotspots as the inclined criminals would sense a scope for getting caught and the area being less tolerant towards such activities.
