An unstructured interview is just the opposite of an structured interview, where in a structured interview there are pre set of questions, box ticking and oral questionnaires the unstructured interview is more like a TV chat show.
Guidelines for unstructured interview:
1. Have open ended questions - like a chit chat show like an impromptu
2. Have qualitative data
3. Explore inconsistencies- At times interviewee's statements will appear to contradict their previous statements or explanations. This may simply reflect the fact that all people hold some beliefs that are not completely consistent with their other beliefs It is possible, also, that they misunderstood the question, resulting in an apparent contradiction. Nevertheless, it is important to explore apparent inconsistencies to clarify a misunderstanding or gain new information.
4. Use non leading questions;
5. Probe beyond the expected answer
6. Avoid long questions, jargons, and complex questions.
