Collective Bargaining is a discussion \ negotiation happens between an employer and employee when the issue arises. The 7 different areas of Collective bargaining are as follows
Preparing – Any time there is an issue, at this stage of collective bargaining the organizing group from the union and management sit together and put forward the issue they are facing and also a list of proposal union would like to make. The proposal includes everything that needs to be addressed in the collective bargaining and this acts a document for further discussion. At this stage itself the proposal needs to be prepared to ensure that everything is covered in the initial proposal discussion itself. If trade union exist, they are the one who take responsibility of representing the employees.
Arguing – Arguing is another area in collective bargaining. Both employees union and the management of the company start discussing about the proposal, analyse the details mentioned along with the facts and figures and financial information which are relevant in the proposal. When both the parties do not come to the consensus the argument starts. Both the parties stand for their opinion. The argument and the counter arguments can get heated up, negotiations can break down and the proposals remain as it is until the leaders does not give a rational judgement.
Signalling – The collective bargaining rest on the union representatives who submit the proposal which are ideal and acceptable by both the parties. Both the parties should be willing to accept the deal for more or less and should not harm any of the sides. Sending subtle messages to each other, changing the tone they talk, body language can also send the message that how they are reacting over to the proposal submitted. Any failures in sending the positive vibes to each other could possibly be a failure or may end up with both parties not agreeing to it.
Proposing – One of the important areas of Collective bargaining is Proposal. The proposal what was submitted and what they are going to end up with plays a vital role. The proposal initially submitted cannot be the final one and there will be a lot of discussion, arguments happens with the representatives and the management. If the discussion goes fruitful and the proposal can be tweaked which can be beneficial toboth the parties and the same has to be agreed by them. Then there r
5) Packaging – Packaging involves making concessions and placing items which are really mutually beneficial to both the parties. Also they need to makes sure that package comes with full proposal and should not break unless agreed by both the parties.
6) Bargaining – The packaging put forward by both the parties under common ground makes a settlement. The bargaining process continuous until both the parties agree to what is being discussed and this is going to be the area where everything gets finalized and move ahead towards the closure.
7) Closing – After covering all the areas and mutually agreed by both the parties, the bargaining takes further to the closure by signing the agreement by both the parties and also discuss from the when the new proposal going to get applied. This is the last area which gets covered in the Collective bargaining
