If an organism grows in the OF-glucose medium that is exposed to air, is the organism oxidative or fermentative?

I know the answer is it could be either but i do not know how to explain it

Solutions

Expert Solution

Could be either. If an organism grows on OF glucose medium when exposed to air it is oxidative (areobic) metabolism. We should also see growth/acid production in the tube, as theorganisms require oxygen to convert the sugars in the media. If it was fermentative (anaereobic metabolism), we can still see growth/acid production through the entire tube, as their growth isn't dependant on oxygen to occur.C. Fermentation Tubes1.What would happen if an organism used up all the carbohydrate in a fermentation tube? What color would the indicator be then? The organism would oxidase peptone and produce ammonia resulting in turning the indicator from yellow (production of acid) to red (neutral).2.If an organism metabolizes glucose aerobically, what result will occur in the fermentation tubes?Gas will be trapped in the inverted or Durham tube. Bubbles will appear.3.If a bacterium cannot ferment glucose, why not test its ability to ferment other carbohydrates?Because glucose is a monosaccharide and is already in its simplest form, other carbohydrates would need to be broken down into monosaccharides.

When a plant grows, the atoms used come from carbon dioxide in the air and water. Plants are able to accomplish this through the process of photosynthesis, cellular respiration and biosynthesis of macromolecules. Where does the energy come from that allow plants to synthesize the necessary biological macromolecules that allow it to grow? Hint: It is NOT from sunlight. Explain your answer.

Thinking of lactose operon regulation, what happens when E. coli is grown in medium with glucose and lactose? Group of answer choices neither Cap/cAMP activator nor LacI repressor are bound to a regulatory DNA sequence. LacI repressor is bound to the OPERATOR sequence but Cap/cAMPactivator is not. Cap/cAMP activator is bound to the CAP motif but LacI repressor is not. both Cap/cAMP activator and LacI repressor are bound to the OPERATOR sequence.

The lysine decarboxylase test medium contained 5 grams of lysine and 1 gram of glucose per liter.   Why is glucose important for this test to work? Also, how would reversing the amounts of lysine and glucose in the test medium (i.e., using 1 gram of lysine and 5 grams of glucose instead) affect the outcome of the test and why?
