Scientists have observed water patterns on Mars. Consider landscapes and environments you have observed. What evidence is there for the past movement of water in these places?

Solutions

Expert Solution

When NASA was studying mars then the appearance of gullies on its surface signified the flow of a liquid (most probably water) in its past. Now on considering Landscapes and Environments we observed the liquid water appears to flow from some steeps at relatively warmer slopes on the Martial Land.

Geological evidences of water in the past was confirmed by the sight of enormous outflow channels carved by floods, river valley networks, deltas, and lakebeds. The detection of rocks and minerals on the surface that could only have formed if those rocks were under a flow of liquid water. Many geomorphic features Shows us that there was presence of ground ice and the movement of ice in glaciers. Gullies and slope lineae along the cliffs and crater walls shows that flowing water still continues shaping the surface of Mars, but not at that rapid rate as it was used to be in the past.

Scientists want to place a 3900 kg satellite in orbit around Mars. They plan to have the satellite orbit a distance equal to 2.2 times the radius of Mars above the surface of the planet. Here is some information that will help solve this problem: mmars = 6.4191 x 1023 kg rmars = 3.397 x 106 m G = 6.67428 x 10-11 N-m2/kg2 1)What is the force of attraction between Mars and the satellite? 2)What speed should the satellite have...

You have been chosen to be the one of few to go to Mars. On Mars you have a standard 55 gal water drum (height = 35 in, diameter = 23 in) filled with water. You are unlucky that the pump is broken to get the water out. But you are an a NASA astronaut, you find a spike (length = 6.5 in to the point, width = 0.5 in and 0.5 in) and a hammer. You need the water...

Consider that you have a water park and a slide with no friction in it . Park visitors slide a vertical distance hh down the waterslide in a sitting position. When they come to the bottom of the slide, they grab a handle at the bottom end of a 5.00-m-long uniform pole. The pole hangs vertically, initially at rest. The upper end of the pole is pivoted about a stationary, frictionless axle. The pole with a person hanging on the...
