How much heat in kilojoules is required to warm 10.0 g of ice, initially at -20.0 ∘C, to steam at 105 ∘C. The heat capacity of ice is 2.09 J/g∘C and that of steam is 1.84 J/g∘C.
Need help solving it.
I got 30.603, but I do not if it is right.
You require heat capacity and enthapy of vaporisation & fusion of water also to solve the problem posted.so i am adding the data from my side .....
The heat capacity of ice is 2.09 J/g∘C and that of steam is 1.84 J/g∘C.
The heat capacity of water is 4.184 J/g∘C, enthalpy of vaporization water , 2260 J/gram,
enthalpy of fusion water , 334 J/gram
Heat needed = heating ice ( -20o to 0 o) + melting ice at 0o + heating water(0o to 100o ) +
evaportaing water to vapor at 100o + heating vapor ( 0o to 105o )
= (msΔT)ice +ΔHfusionx mass + (msΔT)water + ΔHevap x mass + (msΔT)vapor
= 10x2.09x20 + 334x10 + 10x4.184x100 + 2260x10 +10x1.84x5
= 30634Joules = 30.634Kj
