According to the Vroom-Jago Contingency Model, leaders should choose one of 5 decision-making styles based on situational factors
including how important the decision is and the need for follower support. Describe a decision you (or a leader you know) recently faced,
identify which decision style is appropriate and why.
Here i will be explaining how my leader has adapted to the situation by choosing a decision style.
A project was handover to the team where it need to be done with high efficiency and in short period of time. The team members including me was totally perplexed as we were new and inexperienced, we were not familiar with role and nature of job so my team leader adopted autocratic leadership style type 1 (A1) to get the things done perfectly and within the time period.
In this situation me and my team member completely supported our leader and we found that this style is appropriate for the situation. This style of leadership allows staff to focus on performing specific tasks without worrying about making complex decisions and to become highly skilled at performing certain duties which can be beneficial to the organization. The, what, when and how a task must be done are clearly stated by autocratic leader most of the times. It motivates staff by appealing to their personal desires and on instrumental economic transactions. We the team members do not have influence and control over the decision making process as we were completely new and inexperienced, unskilled for the particular project, here our team leader were only the knowlegable member about the work and he will be the one who would come up with a solution for the entire group on their own.
