Suppose that you were hired as a charge analyst a few months ago at Bryant Hospital. Due to lack of proper training, you have steadily fallen behind in billing for hospital services to patients; patients are now complaining about receiving late bills even after they have made payments. The hospital is suffering from both a collections standpoint and a public relations standpoint due to late billings, and the hospital is now facing an internal audit.
Are the patients still responsible for the late billing?
What if they refuse to pay because the hospital was not upfront about the costs?
No, patients are not responsible for receiving late bills as they already have done the payments were asked by the charge analyst to give the statements. And based upon the costs and expenses involved in their treatment, they might be asked to pay the bills, and from their side, they spent the laws.
The main mistake of the charge analyst, in that case, is he wasn't trained well. The hospital must go through his experience and learning before appointing him as a charge analyst. His responsibilities are to get bills cleared on time with full payment and responsible for all inpatient And outpatient charge description documents.
Well, in this case, the hospital can not force the patients and cannot file a legal claim against the patients but yeah first of all the hospital needs to get all bills reports from the charge analyst and after that, they need to ask him to leave the hospital as his termination.
After that, the hospital Should ask all the patients and should arrange a meeting where the hospital will please them who are still getting late bills and ask them to submit the pending bills if the proposals are pending and not received in full payment.
