state whether extinction procedures allow for the occurrence of the target behavior, or instead prevent the occurrence of the target behavior

Solutions

Expert Solution

Extinction behavior prevends the occurence of the target behavior. Extinction is the process where in the conditioning of the stimulus and response is stopped leading to a state where no response produced for the stimulus. During extinction as new association with the stimulus is learned that inhibit it from providing the earlier learned response.

Extinction is the process where in nolonger the stimulus and response is paired leading to extinction of the already learned behavior. Extinction is a no event, where we dont do anything(no adding or removing of stimulus) just not engaging in any related activity vuiding it to non existance or extinction of behavior. When there occurs no pairing of CS , it would lead to extinction.

For example : when pavlov dog is no longer paired to have the bell and food, it will stop salivating to the sound of bell. Leading to prevent the target behavior( salivation).
