Besides IR, how else can you confirm the structure of your product? Suggest an alternative technique and the characteristic feature to distinguish the product by that technique.
Besides IR spectroscopy, one can use NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectroscopy and Mass spectrometry as powerful methods for the identification of the structure of the product.
In NMR 1H NMR and 13C NMR are the important techniques for the identification of organic products.
In this NMR studies, the nuclei (either 1H or 13C) which are present non-equivalent chemical environment will give different peaks in the spectrum, by seeing which one can identify the possible structural skeleton of the product.
In Mass spectrometry, the structural constitution can be identified by recording the mass spectrum of the product.
If the product molecular weight is matched with the molecular ion peak in the mass spectrum then the obtained product can be confirmed as the desired product.
